Passing of One of Our Warriors
November 30, 2011
Dear Meherrin People:
I regretfully have to share the news of the “crossing over” or passing of one of our warriors. Mr. Ernest Poole, our former Council Chairman has left us. My personal experience with Mr. Poole has helped shape my own growth as a member of our tribal governance. Approximately 6 years ago, as a freshman council person, Mr. Poole took me under his wing and helped me to understand the gravity of what is to effectively represent a tribe as a leader. From that point on I grew to respect Mr. Poole and soon came to call him friend. Mr. Poole is someone that I will miss. Mr. Poole is someone that I will remember with great respect and honor.
It is my understanding that Mr. Poole wanted his “crossing over” ceremony to take place on our tribal grounds. The exact nature of these details has yet to be determined but as this information is made available, you the community will be made aware.
Yours truly,
Dr. Aaron Winston
Meherrin Council Chairman
