A Message from Chief Lewis

Aho! Greetings, once again.
In this new message from the Chief, I wou1d like to invite and welcome everyone to our upcoming Powwow to be held on October 24th through the 26th. We are looking forward to seeing all of you, and of course it is open to the public. I am also making an effort to update this message as new events and Meherrin news is made more available.
We are preparing the tribal grounds and expecting this to be a great year for this event. As is mentioned in the September News section, we are preparing the ground work for a documentary DVD on our people and welcome your suggestions.
We are also in the process of creating a Tribal members only section to our website that will only be accessible to tribal members to include current tribal business, and general body meeting information. All tribal members will be given access to this proposed section. For more information on this please contact the Tribal Governing Body, or the tribal office.
Our tribe was recently participants in the Ahoskie heritage festival for which I was ill and could not attend. I am pleased that we were represented by members of our tribal council and various other tribal members. It was quite an honor to have received this 1nvitation from the Mayor of Ahoskie. After the festival, I was greeted by many tribal members and relatives at a birthday celebration at my home for many of the Lewis family members who had birthdays' this month. We had a grand time.
The tribal council and I will soon be meeting and visiting tribal members in the Meherrin Community. We feel that for some members who do not have access to the internet. and those physically unable to attend meetings that his would be a good way to keep the membership informed and for them to remain tribally Qctive. We need to cherish our elderly.
I am looking forward to personally seeing and talking to you all at the Pow Wow.

Chief Thomas “Two Feathers” Lewis
